HC Deb 28 February 1956 vol 549 cc1002-3
60. Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Labour to make a further statement on the trade dispute in the printing industry.

Mr. Iain Macleod

As my hon. Friend is aware, I have appointed two courts of inquiry into the disputes in the printing industry, one to deal with the London disputes and the other with the dispute in the Provinces. The inquiry into the London disputes is now proceeding, but in the case of the dispute between the British Federation of Master Printers and the Newspaper Society on the one hand and the Typographical Association on the other agreement has been reached between the parties, with the approval of the court of inquiry, to resume negotiations under the chairmanship of an officer of my Department as soon as the Report of the court of inquiry on the London disputes is published. This agreement also provides for the resumption of normal working by members of the Typographical Association with effect from last Sunday evening.
