HC Deb 28 February 1956 vol 549 c1010
71 and 72. Mr. Steele

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) how many families are still living in ex-Army Nissen huts in Dunbartonshire;

(2) when the remaining families, now living at Camis Eskan Camp, Helens-burgh, will be rehoused.

The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. J. Nixon Browne)

I am informed that four families are still living in Nissen huts in Dunbartonshire, all at Camis Eskan Camp, Helensburgh. It is not possible to say when these families will be rehoused, but the county council is making every effort to find other accommodation.

Mr. Steele

In view of the fact that only four families are left in these Nissen huts and the fact that the Secretary of State for Scotland has some responsibility in the matter, will he ask the county council to try to ensure that these families are quickly rehoused?

Mr. Browne

This is a matter for the county council. The council has already rehoused a large number of families for, as the hon. Member knows, there were twenty-four families involved at this time last year, and I have no doubt whatever that it will complete the job successfully.
