asked the Minister of Health what numbers of persons, and what proportion of the population in Wales, suffered from poliomyelitis in the twelve months up to the latest convenient date; how these figures compare with those for the previous twelve months; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Turton

The number of cases of poliomyelitis in Wales notified during the twelve months ending 31st December, 1955, was 258 and the rate per million population was 99½. The corresponding figures for 1954 were 72 and 27.7.
