HC Deb 27 February 1956 vol 549 c818
23. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Health whether he will arrange that cases of acute exacerbation of chronic respiratory disease shall be treated, so far as is possible, outside the London area and other large industrial cities, during the season when fog is prevalent.

Mr. Turton

I will consider this suggestion in consultation with my Standing Medical Advisory Committee.

Dr. Stross

Would the Minister bear in mind, in putting this matter forward, that we are able accurately to prophesy what types of patients are likely to suffer from severe fog in the winter? If beds are available outside cities, is it not far better to use them there than to allow patients with acute exacerbation of chronic respiratory disease to suffocate in the sulphur-laden atmosphere of our great cities?

Mr. Turton

I think it would be advisable to get the opinion of my Advisory Committee, which will be meeting again on 13th March.
