§ 35. Mr. Grimondasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the details of his new instructions to the Capital Issues Committee.
§ Mr. H. MacmillanThe Committee is acting on the guidance given to it in my statement of February 17th.
§ Mr. GrimondAs that statement seems to put on the Committee the onus of making a selection between different projects, may I ask whether the Chancellor is satisfied that this was a fair onus to put on a committee—that of carrying out Gov 185 ernment policy? If he is, would he not see that the Committee makes detailed reports to the House on how it acts and what decisions it has taken?
§ Mr. MacmillanI will consider that. This Committee has a very long record of public service under a very distinguished and able chairman, and I am confident that it carries out its work to general satisfaction.
