§ Mr. Aubrey JonesIn 1945 the percentage of total coal output mechanically cut was 72 and the percentage mechanically conveyed 71. The corresponding figures for 1954—the latest available— were 84 and 90, respectively. The percentage of coal loaded by mechanical means increased from 1⅓ in 1945 to 9½ in 1955.
