HC Deb 02 February 1956 vol 548 cc1058-9
16. Dr. Stross

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement concerning the proposed new trade agreement between Britain and Czechoslovakia.

13. Mr. Chapman

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in the light of the present situation in the British motor car industry, he will review his ban on the Czechoslovak proposal for the purchase of 1,000 British passenger cars against imports of Czechoslovak goods required by British purchasers.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The Czechoslovak Government have accepted our invitation to send a trade and finance delegation to London, and I hope that they will shortly be able to begin talks. Meanwhile, I think it would be better not to comment on matters which may arise in those talks.
