asked the President of the Board of Trade the policy of his Department concerning the issue of export licences for Egypt.

Each case is examined on its individual merits, except in respect of goods of military significance for which no licences are granted.

Mr. Peyton

While I am well aware of the present difficulties, may I ask my right hon. Friend whether he would bear in mind that there is a very considerable uncertainty about this point, and we would be very grateful if he would take steps to clear it up and make clear what the policy of the Government is?
