HC Deb 12 December 1956 vol 562 cc418-9
42. Mr. Finlay

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many ships or other obstacles were sunk in the Suez Canal by the Egyptian Government after they had accepted the United Nations decision for a cease-fire.

The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. David Ormsby-Gore)

I regret that I have no certain information on this matter.

Mr. Finlay

Will my hon. Friend confirm that, whatever the state of opinion is on this matter, the United Nations has agreed to foot the whole bill, and will he not concede that it would be much cheaper for the United Nations in the long run to use the facilities available to it under the British Admiralty?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

That does not arise on this Question.
