HC Deb 06 December 1956 vol 561 c1433
24. Mr. J. J. Astor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement on the appointment of a committee to advise on the acquisition and disposal of bloodstock by the National Stud.

Mr. Amory

Yes, Sir. As recommended by the Committee on National Stud policy and methods of operation, I have appointed a standing Committee to advise me on all proposals for the acquisition and disposal of bloodstock—other than sales of yearlings and foals—by the National Stud. I am glad to say that the Duke of Norfolk has consented to act as Chairman of the Committee. The other members will be Mr. M. W. Wickham-Boynton and Mr. Jack Jarvis. I should like to make it clear that the members of the Committee will have no responsibility for the general policy of the Stud or for its day-to-day operations.

Mr. Astor

Can my right hon. Friend say whether this Committee will be operational forthwith?

Mr. Amory

I hope so.
