§ 40. Mr. Kimballasked the Minister of Labour if he will bear in mind the demand for labour in the principal agricultural areas of the country and see if any of the Hungarian refugees with agricultural skill could be employed in the Gainsborough, Isle of Aixholme or Market Rasen area of Lincolnshire.
§ Mr. Iain MacleodYes, Sir; and I should be glad if any farmer who can offer employment and arrange for accommodation of Hungarians would notify his nearest local employment exchange. Of those who have already arrived, however, only a few have had agricultural experience.
§ Mr. KimballWould my right hon. Friend look very carefully at the skill and training of any further refugees who may come into this country, because there are many houses available on our farms for good skilled workers?
§ Mr. MacleodI think that is very important, but on the whole the people who came in first were students, engineers and so on, and there were comparatively few who were suitable for this sort of work.
