HC Deb 04 December 1956 vol 561 cc1042-3
42. Mr. Roy Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what direct controls, other than petrol rationing, he proposes to introduce in the near future.

Mr. Walker-Smith

My right hon. Friend will be indicating his intentions for economic and financial measures in the near future in a statement at the end of Question Time. I would ask the hon. Member to await that statement.

Mr. Jenkins

Yes, but can we have an assurance from the Economic Secretary that the Chancellor's statement will in fact apply itself to these detailed questions and not be a mixture of biographical reminiscence and political polemic?

Mr. Walker-Smith

I am sure that when the hon. Gentleman has heard it he will recognise that my right hon. Friend's statement has its customary clarity of exposition and comprehensiveness of scope.
