§ 36. Mr. Callaghanasked the Minister of Education what action he has taken to follow up the recent suggestion of the Scientific Advisory Council that retired Service officers should receive training to fit them for science teaching in schools.
§ Sir D. EcclesThis is an interesting suggestion, but at present I can add nothing to the reply my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary gave to the hon. Member for Hayes and Harlington (Mr. Skeffington) the day before yesterday.
§ Mr. CallaghanWhen can we expect to see some science teachers drawn from this source, in view of the crippling shortage which we are experiencing at the moment?
§ Sir D. EcclesAt the moment the Resettlement Advice Bureau, which is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour, is investigating this matter, so far without finding any demand. If we find it is necessary to give some kind of training, we will do so.
