HC Deb 25 April 1956 vol 551 cc1777-8
35. Mr. Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will end the ban on taking political publications into British Guiana.

Mr. Hare

No, Sir.

Mr. Allaun

Is the Minister aware that similar bans are in operation throughout the Caribbean? What possible objection can he take to such publications as "The Motor Car Industry Faces Growing Crisis"?

Mr. Hare

Some time ago I gave the hon. Gentleman a list of these publications, which are only 25 in number. I was sympathetic to what the hon. Gentleman said in his earlier Question, and my right hon. Friend has suggested to the Governor that it might be possible to work out means by which a list of these prohibited publications is shown to people when they are entering the Colony.
