HC Deb 25 April 1956 vol 551 cc1773-4
28. Mr. V. Yates

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will now make a further statement upon the review of the Paris Agreements, in view of the refusal of the West German Government to contribute towards the cost of British forces stationed in Germany.

Mr. Nutting

Negotiations on the question of the German contribution are still in progress in Bonn, and I cannot, therefore, add anything to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member on 18th April.

Mr. Yates

In view of the specific refusal by the German Government to make any financial contribution whatever to the cost of British troops in Germany, and of the fact that they are not required to do so under the Paris Agreements, is not the issue quite clear? How long will the Government be negotiating on this matter, and when do they expect to be able to make a statement to the House?

Mr. Nutting

A statement will, of course, be made to the House directly the negotiations are completed.
