HC Deb 23 April 1956 vol 551 cc1441-2
32. Mr. Page

asked the Minister of Health what organised suggestion scheme is in operation in his Department; how many suggestions are received from employees through that organisation annually; how many are adopted; what awards are made for such suggestions; and what he estimates to be the savings made by the adoption of employees' suggestions.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

Members of the staff are encouraged to put forward suggestions and there is a suggestions committee of the Departmental Whitley Council to consider them. Recently the suggestions have averaged 46 a year and 11 a year have been adopted. Awards in the form of book tokens are made where appropriate. It is not possible to make an estimate of the savings that have resulted.

Mr. Page

Is my hon. Friend aware that the score of her Department is much better than that of some of the Departments of some of her colleagues? Is she aware that the British Productivity Council has been so impressed with the value of organised suggestion schemes that it has set up an ad hoc committee to see how they can be promoted? Will she give consideration to the report of that Committee when it is issued?
