HC Deb 23 April 1956 vol 551 c1451
51. Mr. W. R. Williams

asked the Minister of Health, as representing the Lord President of the Council, if he will make the Report of the Medical Research Council on which Professor George Drew has publicly commented available to Members of the House of Commons; and how soon he anticipates that this will be possible.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

The Medical Research Council proposes to publish the report being prepared by Professor Drew on his work on the effects of alcohol on human performance. The work is however not yet complete, and it is not possible at this stage to give a date for its publication.

Mr. Williams

Why is it impossible at this stage to give a date? A large number of people are anxiously awaiting the report. Why the delay?

Miss Hornsby-Smith

The hon. Member is very ready to blame us for the delay, but Professor Drew, who gave a lecture on this topic which has given rise to the interest in the subject, has not yet completed with the Medical Research Council and passed on to us the report which he and others are preparing on his experiments.
