HC Deb 23 April 1956 vol 551 cc1443-4
44. Mr. Blackburn

asked the Minister of Health whether he will issue a circular to local authorities to remind them of those provisions of Statutory Instrument No. 1906, the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1955, which come into force on 1st July, 1956.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

My right hon. Friend does not think that a special circular is required for this as it is already known to the local authorities.

Mr. Blackburn

Is the Minister aware that meat is still being transported in unsatisfactory vehicles and that there is considerable anxiety that insufficient preparations are made to meet the requirements of the Regulations?

Miss Hornsby-Smith

If the hon. Member has any special cases in mind, I will be pleased to look into them. The local authorities, however, were fully advised last December, and I think it would be a reflection on the very considerable work they have already done to implement the provisions of the Regulations if we were to send them yet another reminder.
