§ 19. Mr. Pageasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what organised suggestion scheme is in operation in his Department; how many suggestions are received from employees through that organisation annually; how many are adopted; what awards are made for such suggestions; and what he estimates to be the savings made by the adoption of employees' suggestions.
§ Mr. DeedesNo such scheme is in operation in the Home Office.
§ Mr. PageIs not the hon. Gentleman aware of the success of these schemes in other Government Departments, and will he not consult his colleagues and see whether he cannot get one in operation in the Home Office?
§ Mr. DeedesNo, Sir. The work of the Home Office is largely administrative in character, and does not lend itself to the suggestion-scheme procedure as well as some other Departments do.
§ Mr. ShinwellIn view of the frequency with which the hon. Member for Crosby (Mr. Page) puts these Questions, may I ask the Joint Under-Secretary whether he is aware that hon. Members frequently make suggestions to the Government, without avail?
§ Mr. DeedesAll suggestions from all hon. Members are always welcomed.
