HC Deb 19 April 1956 vol 551 cc1152-3
10. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the strike at Dialoys Factory, Cardiff; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Yes, Sir. The strike began on 9th April, following the re-engagement of one of a number of men recently discharged on redundancy. An agreement was reached between the firm and the trade union concerned at meetings under the chairmanship of one of my officers, and work was resumed on 16th April.

Mr. Thomas

Is the Minister aware that there is general satisfaction at the fact that his Department acted as quickly as it did in this instance, and that we are grateful for the co-operation? Is he quite sure that there is no victimisation of any of those who were on strike in this factory?

Mr. Macleod

I am very glad to have that tribute to the efforts of my local conciliation officer. I am sure that the hon. Member shares my satisfaction at the outcome. So far as I know the settlement is completely satisfactory, but I will look into the point which he has raised.
