HC Deb 18 April 1956 vol 551 cc985-6
11. Mr. Page

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what organised suggestion scheme is in operation in his Department; how many suggestions are received from employees through that organisation annually; how many are adopted; what awards are made for such suggestions; and what he estimates to be the savings made by the adoption of employees' suggestions.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Anthony Nutting)

No organised suggestions scheme has so far been instituted in the Foreign Office. The desirability of instituting such a scheme is now under consideration.

Mr. Page

Having regard to the Chancellor's statement that he desires to make an economy of £100 million in Government expenditure, does my right hon. Friend realise the economies which can be made through organised suggestion schemes? Will he look into those which are being operated successfully in some of the other Government Departments?

Mr. Nutting

Yes. I will certainly bear that point in mind.
