HC Deb 17 April 1956 vol 551 c849
62. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will consider bringing up to date the statutory allowance for repairs, with a view to helping small businesses over their rating assessments.

63. Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government, now that the new valuation lists are in force, what steps he proposes to take in the light of the recommendations made by the Edwards Committee in September, 1954.

Mr. Sandys

These matters are being considered as part of the general review of the finance of local government which I announced earlier, and which is now well under way.

Mr. Ridsdale

Is my right hon. Friend aware of the great difficulties of the small shopkeeper at the present time? Will he do all that he can to allay the anxieties of these people as much as possible in the review?

Mr. Sandys

All aspects of the problem will be covered by the review.
