HC Deb 17 April 1956 vol 551 c832
20. Mr. Gower

asked the President of the Board of Trade the total quantity and value of imports from Hong Kong during March; and the figures for March, 1955.

Mr. Low

Figures of the total quantity of imports of all kinds are not available. I would ask my hon. Friend to await publication of the value figures he requires in the Trade and Navigation Accounts for March.

Mr. Gower

Is it not a fact that there has been a large increase? Can my right hon. Friend say whether a large proportion of the goods are of Japanese origin?

Mr. Low

There certainly has been a substantial increase in the first two months of this year, but our imports from Hong Kong are still substantially below our exports to Hong Kong.
