HC Deb 17 April 1956 vol 551 c841
55. Mr. Remnant

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has now signed an agreement with India for the avoidance of the double imposition of Estate Duty; and in what way details will be published.

Mr. H. Brooke

Yes, Sir. A draft Order in Council with the text of the Agreement scheduled to it was laid before the House on Friday last.

Mr. Remnant

Will my right hon. Friend say whether by this agreement sterling companies will no longer have to pay death duties on the estates of their shareholders?

Mr. Brooke

I should not like to give an answer on specific points in the agreement without notice. Perhaps my hon. Friend will study the agreement and then put down further Questions to clarify any matter.
