§ Mr. GowerI beg leave to present a petition on behalf of more than one hundred thousand persons from every county in the United Kingdom, in respect of their belief that the people of the United Kingdom are bearing an excessive burden of taxation.
The Prayer of the Petition is as follows:
Wherefore your Petitioners pray that in view of the present high cost of living and the high level of taxation, immediate steps shall be taken to reduce Central Government spending by a minimum of 1 per cent. per annum, and local government spending also by a minimum of 1 per cent. per annum, thereby helping in some degree to ease the intolerable burden at present being borne by the people of this country.And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.Petition to lie upon the Table.
