§ 31. Mr. Pageasked the Minister of Labour what organised suggestion scheme is in operation in his Department; how many suggestions are received from employees through that organisation annually; how many are adopted; what awards are made for such suggestions; and what he estimates to be the savings made by the adoption of employees' suggestions.
§ Mr. CarrMy Department has a scheme agreed by the Departmental Whitley Council under which members of the staff are invited to contribute suggestions for improvement and economy in methods of work. One thousand, three hundred and forty-two were received last year, and of these 169 were adopted. Monetary awards are made for suggestions which lead to appreciable improvements or economies. It is unfortunately impracticable to measure the savings achieved by the suggestions which have been adopted.
§ Mr. PageIn view of the satisfactory figures which my hon. Friend has given, and having regard to the fact that his Department is particularly responsible for encouraging organised suggestions schemes, has my hon. Friend any plans for advising his colleagues in other Departments on how to carry on their suggestions schemes efficiently and with success?
§ Mr. CarrI am sure that my right hon. Friend and I would always be very glad to give such advice, but I think that most Departments already have suggestions schemes working satisfactorily.
