HC Deb 12 April 1956 vol 551 c375
23. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will now announce the members appointed to the committee to look into the problems of the meat and livestock industries; and give the terms of reference.

Mr. Amory

I hope to be able to announce the name of the chairman and the terms of reference of the committee next week. The names of the other members will be announced as soon as possible after that.

Mr. Dodds

Whilst thanking the Minister for that optimistic statement, may I ask whether he can now say that there will be a housewife on this committee, since much of the work which the committee will do will apply to housewives? Does he not appreciate the need for somebody to tell the committee all the time that the housewife wants smaller, leaner joints of meat at a more reasonable price?

Mr. Amory

I entirely agree with the hon. Member that the housewife's needs are crucial in this matter. I will bear in mind what he has said and consider the best way to make sure that the housewife's view is put before the committee.
