HC Deb 11 April 1956 vol 551 cc212-3
51. Mr. Dugdale

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the cadet corps which was planned for Munali African School is not now to be formed.

Mr. Hare

As the formation of cadet corps is a matter for the Federal Government, I am not in a position to answer this Question.

Mr. Dugdale

Will the right hon. Gentleman not agree that it is desirable that Africans as well as Europeans should play a part in the defence of the country? If that is so, is it not wrong that cadet corps should exist only in European schools and not in African schools?

Mr. Hare

The right hon. Member cannot expect me to comment on something which is not the responsibility of my Department.
