asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a further statement on the recent conference on Cyprus and other Mediterranean matters.

Mr. Nutting

A White Paper has been issued (Command 9594) which contains a detailed account of the proceedings of the Tripartite Conference on the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus. My right hon. Friend would prefer not to add anything at present to this published record.

Mr. Williams

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there are many loyal Greek Cypriots whose prime desire is to see the restoration of law and order in Cyprus? Is he further aware that they will back Her Majesty's Government in anything they do to restore law and order?

Mr. Nutting

I entirely confirm my hon. Friend's statement and would only add that it is Her Majesty's Government's continuing desire and hope that this problem may be solved by patient negotiation.
