HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 cc1644-5
40. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Labour which industries are considered to bear serious health hazards for which the Industrial Health Advisory Committee has recommended voluntary medical supervision.

Sir W. Monckton

The Committee has recommended the stimulation of the further development of voluntary medical supervision in the steel foundry, iron and steel manufacturing, rubber and chemical industries.

Dr. Stross

Could there not be an extension to all industries in which noxious fumes and dusts are inhaled by workers? Will the Minister bear in mind that in foundries that are called copper smelting foundries, cadmium is sometimes used, and the fumes from it are now known to be quite deadly in their effect?

Sir W. Monckton

I will bring that to the notice of the Committee so far as the Committee is not already aware of it.

41. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will institute a pilot local industrial health survey in Stoke-on-Trent, in view of the past and present health hazards in its principal industries.

Sir W. Monckton

The question of further surveys is to be considered by the Industrial Health Advisory Committee, and I shall bring the hon. Member's Question to its attention.

Dr. Stross

Thank you.
