HC Deb 24 November 1955 vol 546 c1765

Lords Amendment: In page 2, line 9, at end insert "the."

9.35 p.m.

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Henry Brooke)

I beg to move, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said Amendment.

This is almost a triviality. The Bill passed through this House unamended; indeed, it was so readily accepted by the House that in Committee there was no discussions at all. Perhaps we made a slip. We overlooked that the article "the" had been omitted by a printing error at the end of one line. In another place an eagle eye detected this. An Amendment was introduced, and I trust that it will not be necessary to keep the House sitting long before it may be agreed to here.

Mr. Alfred Robens (Blyth)

After that long explanation, for which we thank the right hon. Gentleman, I should like to say that I am sorry that there is no Law Officer present so that we can discuss the Amendment at length. However, I think that we ought to be satisfied with what the right hon. Gentleman said.

Question put and agreed to.
