HC Deb 16 November 1955 vol 546 cc413-4
33. Mr. Hyde

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will take steps to improve the toilet accommodation in the departure lounge of London Airport.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am not sure to which of the many departure lounges at London Airport my hon. Friend is referring. I presume that he has in mind the transit restaurant in the new building in the central area, which is being used until the end of this month as a departure lounge for internal flights. All the others have excellent accommodation of this sort.

Mr. Hyde

Is my right hon. Friend not aware that I am referring to the principal departure lounge for passengers? Is he not aware that those who arrive from Waterloo after a coach ride of approximately an hour and a quarter frequently find it very embarrassing to queue for the extremely limited accommodation? Will my right hon. Friend try to increase it?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

On the whole this accommodation is pretty good, apart from one example, which is a purely temporary arrangement during the next few weeks, but if my hon. Friend will specify with even greater precision which particular apartment he has in mind, I shall gladly look into the matter.
