§ 41. Captain Pilkingtonasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what experiments he has made of different non-skid surfaces for roads; and his conclusions.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterIn conjunction with the Road Research Laboratory, I am investigating the economy and durability, as well as the non-skid qualities, of some 1,500 different compositions of road surfacing. In addition, periodic skidding tests are carried out on existing roads. The results of these investigations are published from time to time by the Road Research Laboratory.
§ Captain PilkingtonCan my right hon. Friend say whether it is obligatory at the present time, whenever repairs to roads are carried out, for the best non-skid surface available to be used?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterWithout notice, I should be disinclined to say that there was any statutory provision, but, obviously, where questions of grant arise it is my Department's duty to see that the most suitable surfaces are used.
§ Mr. P. WilliamsIs the Minister aware of the danger of riding on zebras in wet weather?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterYes, Sir.
