HC Deb 08 November 1955 vol 545 c1633
13. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the present position and future programme in respect of electricity supply by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board in the Islands of Harris, North and South Uist, Barra, Eriskay and the smaller Outer Hebridean islands.

Mr. J. Stuart

The Board informs me that work in progress will result in the connection of 90 per cent. of the potential consumers in Harris and 86 per cent. in Benbecula, South Uist and Eriskay. In the former case, 175 out of 750 potential consumers and, in the latter, 243 out of 700 have already been connected. The Board is considering tenders for distribution schemes in Barra (including Vatersay) and North Uist including Grimsay and Berneray) but has reached no decision.

Mr. MacMillan

Thank you.
