HC Deb 08 November 1955 vol 545 c1649
43. Captain Pilkington

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, whether he is satisfied with the present amount of dental research; and what steps he is taking to increase it.

Mr. Bevins

Dental research is being carried on at a number of centres in this country, under the sponsorship of the Medical Research Council and otherwise. An important limiting factor in the further promotion of dental research is the dearth of suitably qualified and experienced workers. But the Council is aware of the need for more research in this field, and is actively seeking opportunities to extend its progamme.

Captain Pilkington

Can my hon. Friend say how our knowledge of this research compares with that of other countries, notably America?

Mr. Bevins

I hardly think that that arises out of the Question, but I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that this matter is very much in the mind of my noble Friend. The limiting factor is not so much a shortage of money as a shortage of skilled workers.
