§ Mr. Gresham CookeI beg leave to ask your permission, Mr. Speaker, to present a Petition on behalf of over 1,000 persons who attended the recent Conservative Party Conference at Bournemouth, the Petition being with regard to the urgent need for a major improvement of road communications in this country. The Prayer of the Petition is as follows:
Wherefore, your Petitioners pray that to ensure the early completion of adequate modern roads in Great Britain arrangements shall be made forthwith to raise a special road loan to provide the necessary funds during the period required to carry out this essential work under a comprehensive and scientifically planned scheme, so avoiding the delays and frustrations which have proved to be inevitable under the present system of financing road works by means of annual grants.And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
§ Mr. PargiterI beg to ask leave, Mr. Speaker, to present a Petition on behalf of 1,454 people who attended the recent Labour Party Conference. It urges that delay in carrying out improvements of road communications is damaging to the progress and prosperity of the country. Except for the larger number of persons who have signed the Petition, it is in the same terms as the Petition which has just beer, read. Therefore, I will not detain the House by reading it. It concludes
