HC Deb 02 November 1955 vol 545 c1005
23. Mr. Hyde

asked the Postmaster-General the number of applications for telephones outstanding in Northern Ireland; and how many of these are in Belfast.

Dr. Hill

Seven thousand, five hundred and sixty-eight and 2,806, respectively.

Mr. Knox Cunningham

Would my right hon. Friend bear in mind that in the Upper Cave Hill Road in Belfast there are people who have been waiting six years for the telephone, and would he see that those responsible on the spot get on with the job of giving this service?

Dr. Hill

I realise that there are big arrears, but I can say that in Belfast alone three extensions of exchanges will take place next year, one other in the year after, and extensive cable laying is to take place next year.
