HC Deb 02 November 1955 vol 545 c1010
24. Mr. Ross

asked the Postmaster-General whether the financial situation and the proposals to deal with it, as outlined in Command Paper No. 9576, were discussed by the Post Office Advisory Council; and on what date.

Dr. Hill

Yes, Sir. The Post Office Advisory Committee was consulted on the problem generally and on tentative proposals to deal with it on 10th February, 1955.

Mr. Ross

Can the right hon. Gentleman make it perfectly clear that the position and the solutions were known long before the General Election and that no attempt was made to deal with the matter?

Dr. Hill

It is also perfectly clear that in recent months there have been added problems, including increased wage awards of £14 million a year.
