HC Deb 02 November 1955 vol 545 c1002
10. Air Commodore Harvey

asked the Postmaster-General when he is planning to install an automatic telephone exchange at Congleton.

The Postmaster-General (Dr. Charles Hill)

In 1960. The existing exchange equipment will be enlarged in the meantime.

Air Commodore Harvey

Will my right hon. Friend say why Congleton has been left so far behind in the Post Office programme, and will he try to improve on that date?

Dr. Hill

There are many arrears to be made up in Congleton as elsewhere, and I am afraid that Congleton cannot be dealt with in the matter of a new automatic exchange until 1960.

Air Commodore Harvey

That is very bad.
