HC Deb 02 November 1955 vol 545 c1023
38. Mr. de Freitas

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will introduce legislation limiting the number of hours which an air pilot may be required to be on duty.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Gosport and Fare-ham (Dr. Bennett) on 26th October.

Mr. Beswick

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that his right hon. Friend was at least a little naive in that reply when he said that the only difference between himself and the British Airline Pilots' Association was that the latter required rather more detail? Is it not a fact that they require a much closer limitation of hours, and is he looking into that matter again?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

As I said to the hon. Member for Uxbridge (Mr. Beswick) in the Answer to which I have referred, I shall be laying regulations on this subject before Parliament shortly, and I think it would be better to await the laying of those regulations before discussing them.
