HC Deb 04 May 1955 vol 540 cc1673-4
23. Mr. K. Robinson

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is now able to come to a decision as to compensation for the ex-officer of the Women's Royal Naval Service, details of whose case were sent to him by the hon. Member for St. Pancras, North, on 18th December, 1954.

The Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty (Commander Allan Noble)

The matter is still under consideration.

Mr. Robinson

Is not the hon. Gentleman aware that this is a very shocking case; that there is a strong moral liability on the Admiralty in this matter; that this woman has suffered considerable anxiety over a period of four years and also an injustice in being mistakenly discharged from the Wrens on health grounds? Is it not time that his Department made up its mind?

Commander Noble

I quite agree with the hon. Gentleman that this has taken a long time, but I am glad he agrees that it is a very difficult case. My right hon. Friend will write to him as soon as possible.
