HC Deb 23 March 1955 vol 538 cc2045-6
19. Mr. Storey

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the number of telephones connected to the Urmston Exchange during 1954, and the number of people waiting for telephones on 1st January, 1955.

Sir. E. Boyle

Four hundred and forty-two telephones were connected during 1954; 780 applications were outstanding on the 1st January, 1955.

Mr. Storey

Will my hon. Friend ask the Assistant Postmaster-General to give special attention to this area in which live a large number of the executives of firms in the adjoining Trafford Park Estate and where telephones are very essential?

Sir. E. Boyle

Yes, Sir. In the last 12 months there has been a reduction of 45 in the waiting list. A major cable relief scheme will be started this year, and, though the waiting list may be high for some time, the situation will get better until the cables are finally completed in 1958.
