HC Deb 15 March 1955 vol 538 c1095
1. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Labour whether he now intends to make special regulations to safeguard workers using radioactive substances.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and National Service (Mr. Harold Watkinson)

I have nothing to add to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Leek (Mr. Harold Davies) on 24th February.

Mr. Willey

Will the Parliamentary Secretary look at this question again? I am sure he appreciates the need for vigilance and the fact that the effects of these substances cannot be detected immediately. Was it not as long ago as 1949 that it was suggested that there might be a case for regulations?

Mr. Watkinson

I said in the previous answer that we were considering whether to make special regulations. That consideration is now well advanced.
