HC Deb 14 March 1955 vol 538 c933
24. Mr. Hay

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government have now given further consideration to their decision not to give financial support to the World Assembly of Youth; and what conclusion they have reached.

Mr. Turton

Yes, Sir. The Estimates now before the House contain provision for an outright grant of £2,000 to enable the British National Committee to pay the arrears of its subscription to the international body; as well as for a sum not exceeding £1,000 from which Her Majesty's Government will match, £ for £, sums raised by the Committee itself.

Mr. Hay

Is my hon. Friend aware that that is a very satisfactory outcome and that this will be money well spent?
