HC Deb 14 March 1955 vol 538 c941
37. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power to what extent his estimate of £300 million for the 10-year programme of nuclear power development includes interest charges; what sum he calculated for interest charges; and what will be the additional amount now required, in view of the Government's decision to increase the cost of borrowing money.

The Minister of Fuel and Power (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

No, Sir. The estimate of capital expenditure does not include any interest charge.

Mr. Hynd

Are we to take it that £300 million will be the basic charge and that it will be nearly doubled by the time all the interest charges are paid?

Mr. Lloyd

I do not think that would be correct.
