HC Deb 14 March 1955 vol 538 cc937-8
32. Mr. G. Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will take steps to provide passages home on a repayment-by-instalment system for British subjects in Egypt who wish to return to Britain.

Mr. Turton

Her Majesty's Consular Officers are authorised to advance public funds for the repatriation to this country of British subjects only if they are destitute. This regulation is of general application and I see no reason why it should be relaxed in respect of British subjects living in Egypt. Repayment by instalments is accepted from repatriated British subjects if they are unable to settle their debt in a single payment.
