HC Deb 07 March 1955 vol 538 cc15-6
40. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Health what portion of the sums he announced on 9th February for new hospital building represented interest charges; and how much extra the schemes will now cost, in view of the higher interest rates now in force.

Mr. Iain Macleod

None, Sir, so the second part of the Question does not arise.

Mr. Hynd

Does that answer mean that the increased interest charges will make no difference to the amount of building to be performed? Does the Treasury not impose a ceiling on expenditure of this kind?

Mr. Macleod

That has nothing to do with the Question, because this matter is financed by the Exchequer out of revenue.
