HC Deb 23 June 1955 vol 542 cc1504-5
Mr. A. Henderson

Would the Prime Minister state the days of the week on which he proposes to answer Questions which may be addressed to him on the Order Paper?

The Prime Minister

I have been trying to follow the practice of the last Parliament, which I hope is convenient to the House, of answering those Questions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is true that I answered them on Wednesday of this week, but the reason was that none of the Questions on Tuesday was reached, and I thought it was only courteous to the House to try to answer them on Wednesday.

Mr. Shinwell

Would the right hon. Gentleman consider bringing forward the Questions addressed to him on the days when he is answering them, as they sometimes are not reached and it is desirable that they should be reached?

The Prime Minister

That is a matter on which I should be guided by you, Mr. Speaker, and by the House. My recollection is that on the opening days of a new Parliament Questions go a little more slowly than they do when we get more used to the habit of them.
