HC Deb 21 June 1955 vol 542 cc1113-4
1. Sir R. Boothby

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has considered the Report of the Committee on Slaughterhouses; and what action the Government propose to take in the matter.

The Joint Under-Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. J. Nixon Browne)

The associations of local authorities recently furnished their views on the Report and my right hon. Friend will be having discussions with them and, as required, with the trade and other interests concerned as soon as possible.

Sir R. Boothby

Does my hon. Friend recognise the need for an early decision in this matter, which is causing considerable anxiety to the farming community?

Mr. Browne

Yes, Sir. We realise to the full that it is desirable to reach decisions as soon as possible, and that the matter is a very difficult one.
