HC Deb 21 June 1955 vol 542 c1130
14. Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has now consulted the educational bodies concerned about the dissatisfaction with the present School Leaving Record; and with what form he has decided to replace it.

Mr. Henderson Stewart

After consulting the educational bodies concerned, my right hon. Friend has reached the conclusion that the present School Leaving Record should be discontinued and that no standard form of leaving record should be prescribed.

Mr. Hannan

Is the Joint Under-Secretary aware that the decision will give general satisfaction to those concerned? What consideration is being given to the issuing of a certificate at the age of 16 comparable with the G.C.E. certificate issued in England?

Mr. Stewart

That matter is now under very active consideration.
